Eligibility: You are eligible if you are (1) an untenured professor; (2) a post-doctoral associate; or (3) a doctoral candidate in STEM who meets the following criteria: (a) you are in your last two years of study with your expected graduation date no later than August 2009, and (b) you have a strong interest in pursuing an academic teaching career. Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary. 

Selection: Enrollment is limited. The selection process will include criteria to assure a population that is diverse in geography, discipline, gender, ethnic background, and institution. Applications are reviewed as they are received. Please visit the application page for detailed information on the application and selection notification process.

Preparation: You should bring a syllabus for a course you may teach, a teaching statement, and any other applicable portfolio materials. During the program, you will participate in several professional development activities. You will build upon or develop a teaching portfolio, which will consist of a new or revised syllabus for one of your own courses and at least one of the following materials: a lecture, a learning activity, a reflective exercise, and/or an assessment tool.

Cost: Accepted applicants agree to pay $1000 for participation in the STEMES Program. The cost includes some meals, conference materials, and daily travel from the hotel to Vanderbilt University's Featheringill Hall. Travel and lodging are not included.
